The Institute for Zen Leadership (IZL) and Chosei Zen (CZ) are seeking to fill three roles on a part-to-full-time basis.
- Digital Marketing Specialist
- Program and Community Manager (IZL only)
- Office Manager
While these positions may be filled by three different people, any two of these roles could be combined and fulfilled by one versatile candidate.
Ideal candidates are people who resonate with our mission to bring Zen and Zen leadership training to those committed to being and making a positive difference. Ideal candidates are also:

- able to work on their own (i.e., remotely in their home office) as well as easily collaborate with teammates virtually.
Compensation for all roles is negotiable depending on the candidate’s skills and experience. We do not offer health insurance, however we do offer flexible work arrangements and paid vacation for full-time employees.
1. Digital Marketing Specialist
This role grows brand value through marketing campaigns with mission-aligned content, attracts new participants, build awareness and grows community for IZL and CZ through a complete digital program, which includes:
- Performing market research to attract new users and identify ways to grow community;
- Maintaining the websites for IZL (WordPress) & CZ (Squarespace), keeping them current with new offerings, blog posts, and SEO optimization;
- Nurturing relationships within our community and expanding social media presence for IZL and CZ through LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube;
- Communicating events and offerings to the CZ and CZ Virtual Dojo communities, and scheduling online events for the CZ Virtual Dojo;
- Implementing effective email and advertising campaigns for IZL that have high open and clickthrough rates;
- Sharing “IZL in the News”, such as events by our founder or other teachers, Tricycle Magazine or forbes.com articles, etc.;
- Coordinating the development of monthly online newsletters/blogs for the IZL and CZ Virtual Dojo communities.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- High digital literacy
- Good writing and design skills
- Marketing skills
This role is successful when (1) there’s more “buzz” about CZ’s and IZL’s work online, (2) the CZ and IZL communities are growing, (3) the CZ and IZL communities are engaged and well-informed of trainings and programs in the respective organizations, and (4) IZL’s programs consistently fill.
It is recognized that it may take up to 12 months of consistent effort to see these effects. Most of the effort will be needed on the IZL side, however this role will have a dual reporting relationship to the President of IZL and the Head of the CZ Virtual Dojo. This role can be completely remote and based anywhere.
2. Program and Community Manager
This role ensures that IZL online and in-person programs run successfully and strengthens the IZL community, which includes:
- Coordinating all IZL programs, online (Zoom) and in-person, and coordinating onsite arrangements for in-person programs in Madison or Spring Green;
- Ensuring registrants have everything they need for a successful experience;
- Documenting IZL program processes;
- Evaluating IZL program quality, including participant satisfaction, and maintaining a dashboard of metrics tied to organizational objectives;
- Supporting the community of IZL practitioners and instructors with opportunities to stay connected between programs, notification of events, and coordination of their IZL-related initiatives;
- Using and maintaining IZL’s registration platform and database (i.e., Network for Good);
- Maintaining records of program participation for awarding certification or continuing education credits;
- Securing accreditation of IZL programs for continuing education credits (e.g., CME for HEAL programs);
- Managing the awarding of program scholarships and maintaining records of scholarships;
- Coordinating with the Office Manager in maintaining an online resource library of program-related materials.

This role is successful when (1) alumni feel fully supported in IZL programs, refer others, and remain engaged with the IZL community (2) instructors (including in Europe and Asia) feel fully supported in running their own programs locally, and (3) participants are supported in their certification journeys and receive appropriate credits for their participation. This role can be remote, however on-site coordination will be required for in-person programs in Wisconsin.
This position reports to the President of IZL.
3. Office Manager
This role handles the administrative functions of IZL and CZ, which includes:
- Accounting, in conjunction with our bookkeeping and payroll team (i.e. Reconciled) for IZL and CZ (Quickbooks Online);
- Filing all tax forms (annual 990), reports and registrations required for IZL’s sustained non-profit status and fundraising;
- Filing reports and registrations required for CZ’s sustained non-profit status and fundraising;
- Using and maintaining IZL’s and CZ’s fundraising and registration platform and database (Network for Good);
- Managing inventory of books and products for IZL and CZ and fulfilling online orders;
- Supporting IZL and CZ Board meetings in coordination with the Board Chairs of the respective organizations; keeping the books and all legal records up to date and organized;
- Maintaining an online archive / library of resources of writings, videos and training materials for IZL and CZ.

- Accounting familiarity

- Good organization skills
This role is successful when (1) books, tax filings, books, and legal requirements are up to date and accurate for both IZL and CZ, (2) online orders are promptly fulfilled and (3) the online archive is up-to-date and accessible. This role can be completely remote, however based in the US.
Most of the effort will be needed on the IZL side, however this role will have a dual reporting relationship to the President of IZL and the Treasurer of CZ. On Board support matters, it will also report to the Board Chairs of the respective organizations.
